Québec ICE TRIP - the video March 20, 2008

Québec ice trip makes always mad, but f***ing happy...

There is nothing better than feeling the cold when you get out from Montreal Airport and listening a strong (but sweet) accent, asking you if you want some beans with your poutine meal??...

Mathieu Péloquin - Our friend & Guide Québécquois...

To figure out how was the feeling of this trip: you should imagine six mens visiting a Quebec climbers familly, having a dinner on a 20 m2 dining room, crashing on the ground to sleep until 11h and then making "an alpine start" at 12h o'clock to go to Lake Willoughby, by -20°C and 40km/h of wind for a nice multi-pitch route...

The Lake Willoughby - A wild playground for every kind of ice climbing...

Tony was the machine to talk and to take the pictures. Erwan and Guigui were masters of logistics and creation... And Mémé, Simon and I were always complaining about a too hard climbing program with schedule and ice to tinny...

The tiny start of "CHOP SHOP" [M8]

At Pont-Rouge, we did this famous competition : FESTIGLACE, wich is not a real comp, but more a super excuse to meet some climbers from everywhere and pump your arms as hell for climbing as many routes as you can in a day.

The Petzl Team in action! Or just before...

Erwan and I took the opportunity to did a small Skydiving demo at noon into the canyon, by a strong wind wich was a quite cold and scary...

At last, if you want to see some big airs on a mixed and ice roof with 3 NOMICS for the attemps, if you want to watch the incredible muscles of Simon Wandeler and if you want to see a big mess session on Cathedral Ledge (at North Conway) > WATCH THE VIDEO !
And you will learn more about the near missings of ice climbing...
But don't forget what you gonna watch is nothing true, except smiles, laughs, and pleasure...

Outdoor games - fisrt day session February 12, 2008

After the opening day, everybody is alive and the smile is on every face of the teams and organizers. It's good to know there is good weather and movies project in reality.

Some sketchy stuff with one member already 1m in a crevasse, but safely rescued by a guide and no injury. Some people have been in the ice cave of Montenvers at night for a caveman session. With or without tools? I don't know yet...

For the village, an additional structure for the dry tooling challenge is born tonight, an overhang of 6m-high and 7m-long connects it to the previous structure. I wish the climbers will like the new sit down start!

Talk to you soon.
Sam

Outdoorgames, yes it is! February 10, 2008

There is a high pressure around Chamonix Mt Blanc area. Blue sky, still some good snow and 7 teams ready to shoot tomorrow morning.

Security briefing and safety infos have been given, including a mountain guide provided for each team by the organization.

Speed riding, base jumping, paragliding, alpinism and gliding with ski, snow, or mono (don't forget we are in Cham', old meca of monoski...)

We heard about some teams that are going in high altitude for climbing and jumping, which is exactly the right concept (not only shooting by the side of the ski slopes). We heard about some teams that are going to shoot at night, some others have syncro action to try...

Let's say it sounds really exciting.

On the village side, there is the structure mostly in place, 3 days left to finish preparing the ice climbing structure (cooling system) especially for the crowd, plus a minibus every afternoon who's going to La Crèmerie for a real ice climbing discover. A small boulder for the kids who want to try rock climbing. The dry contest with a team of 11 super good climbers are ready for a big challenge on saturday night fever.

More news soon,
Sam

Outdoorgames - Inside the organisation February 9, 2008

Day -2 before the ignition.

We already put on a climbing wall for children and the ice climbing structure for the crow who wants to try crampons and ice axes in the middle of next week.

Towers for the super mega screen to watch every movies are already set up, and tomorrow we'll build the drytooling structure for the climber's challenge.

Tomorrow is also a day to make ice with several solutions. More pictures soon!

Keep in touch,
Sam

Norway jumping session October 14, 2007

There is always something better than to stay looking up at the birds...

Seb Collomb-Gros on wingsuit at Grisetskolten (Photo Sam)

We had a good fresh air trip in western Norway last week.

Géraldine, Seb and I, we made some fly over some modern style spots in Molde area guided by our lovely girl Karina and the crazy sexy local Tom Eric.

For him, nothing was good except throw you body away from the cliff. Even if there is three hours walking up to get the exit, there is always some free time to jump more. « So two jumps a day keeps doctor away but ten times a day keeps everything away... »

I've never seen such a good trackers as the Norge Team. With just some track pants they pull at 28 seconds at Grisetskolten. On wingsuit the philosophy keeps the same way with a good approach flying to the relief. A fly few meters close to the rock or near by the winding roads but with still a spirit a safety give us the last good norvegian special : « fly low, pull high! »

In Norway go for a base jump day is always looks like a picnic day or a familly sunday outdoor. All friends, wives and kids are waiting at the landing area with coffee and croissants...

One of them is Santa Claus looking like him is the most friendly passionate guy who have followed history of the Norvegian jumps since the beginning. we don't really feel an approach of terror even if accidents as every outdoor activity happened, Molde Base is just one more alpine approach with only a looking of modernity and smile. Santa Claus believe we can fly as birds and the dream is still alive with Géraldine as a Swiss air pilot...
